Kwara State Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone
To create a sustainable and inclusive agro-industrial sector that drives rural prosperity, ensures food security, and catalyzes economic growth across Kwara State.
Background
The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones program, a partnership between FMAFS and development institutions, aims to create modern infrastructure, policies, and support services for agribusinesses across Kwara State.
The goal of SAPZ is to increase household incomes, foster job creation in rural agricultural communities, especially for youth and women, and enhance food and nutritional security in Nigeria.

"Agriculture remains the backbone of our state's economy, and we are committed to empowering our farmers with the resources and support they need to thrive. Through innovative policies and partnerships"
His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq GCON - Kwara State Governor
Key Features
Infrastructure Development
SAPZs involve the development of necessary infrastructure such as roads, power supply, water, and processing facilities. This helps overcome challenges associated with inadequate infrastructure in rural areas.
Clusters of Agribusinesses
SAPZs adopt a cluster approach, bringing together various agricultural value chain actors in one location. This includes farmers, processors, input suppliers, and other stakeholders, creating synergies and fostering collaboration.
Access to Finance
The initiative aims to improve access to finance for agribusinesses operating within the SAPZs. This involves collaboration with financial institutions and the establishment of funding mechanisms to support agricultural enterprises.
Technology Transfer
SAPZs provide a platform for the transfer of modern agricultural technologies and best practices to farmers and processors, enhancing productivity and product quality.
Job Creation
SAPZs are expected to have a positive impact on rural development by creating employment opportunities, reducing poverty, and promoting inclusive growth. The development of agribusiness within the zones contributes to the overall economic development of the country.
Market Linkages
The zones facilitate market linkages for agricultural products, ensuring that farmers have a reliable market for their produce. This helps reduce post-harvest losses and improves the income of farmers.
